I was blessed to go to Cairo, Egypt on a mission trip. While I was there I met a woman and her daughter at the metro station. Their names were Mahta and Atalie. Mahta was a very poor woman trying to raise a little girl. She would sell packs of tissues and pretty much anything she could find to try to earn a little money so that they could eat. I passed them 4 times every day. I would chat a bit with Mahta and hold little Atalie in my arms and pray over her. She told me about her ex-husband and how in the Muslim faith, if you disobey your husband he can do anything he wants to you. She began to tell me about what happened to her and her daughter. In Cairo they have Konakalili, which is a huge open market in the center of the town. There is a fountain where they do something called acid throwings. The husbands put their wives and children on display, announce to everyone how they disobeyed them and then throw a beaker of acid at them, scarring their faces as a mark to show all of the people what they have done. I sat and cried with Mahta explaining to her that I was sorry and that she and Atalie were beautiful. At the end of my stay Mahta offered me a ring off of her hand. I took it gratefully, and exchanged some clothes, food and toys for Atalie. Everyday I look at my hand and see the ring from them. I thank God for his love and compassion ... since I have come home I found that Mahta is now a Christian and living in Alexandria. Praise God. May His glory be known all over the world!!!
