I was recently blessed with the opportunity to travel to the Philippines with Compassion. I was able to see all the aspects of Compassion at work: a child survival program, several child development centers, and met some Leadership Development Program students. Plus, I got to meet one of my sponsored kids, Margie. Margie's mother and center director accompanied her on the trip. The center director, Evalene, asked me about the outcome of some of my prayer requests that I had mentioned in my letters. I was truly amazed that she remembered them. In her project, all the sponsor letters are read one at a time to everyone. Then, they break into groups and pray for the requests of the sponsors. I was humbled by the care and attention paid by the kids and staff to the requests of people who live halfway around the world. While we were at a child survival project, the staff and mothers wanted to pray for us before we left. Just before they started, I noticed a young mother already starting to raise her hand over us in prayer. Immediately, her child raised both his hands. I was so touched by this little child who already had learned about prayer. Thank God, our trip photographer, Kevin Feldotto, captured the moment in a picture. I will have this as a reminder. Likewise, Margie was a little hyperactive during our visit, but as I prayed over her (along with the rest of the sponsors praying over their kids), she was very quiet, still and attentive. The people of Compassion have always said for us to pray for our kids, because they are praying for you!!! I have seen it in action. I believe that prayer is very important in our walk with the Lord. But, these instances have made me wonder if I am doing it enough.
