In recognition of World Malaria Day on April 25, Compassion has produced a new radio special, "Malaria: A Plague of the Poor." Hosted by Grammy award-winning artist Rebecca St. James, the 30-minute special focuses on raising awareness of the disease, educates people about the deadly reality of malaria for children around the world, and describes how Compassion is fighting to change the statistics.

What is malaria?
Malaria is a potentially fatal infection of the blood caused by a protozoan parasite called Plasmodium. An infection occurs when a person is bitten by a mosquito that carries the parasite.

- insecticide-treated mosquito nets
- education on malaria — prevention and control
- medical treatment for those infected
- insecticide to treat their homes
