Clean Water Charities

Children who live in poverty rely on clean water charities to provide safe and healthy water to them. Before the charities arrive, they often walk an hour each way to collect water and that journey puts them in danger. This often means they are away from school and activities. Even worse, the water they collect is sometimes contaminated and unclean.

• 783 million people in the world do not have access to safe water. This is roughly 11 percent of the world's population.

• 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate sanitation. This is about 35 percent of the world's population.

• Around 700,000 children die every year from diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. That's almost 2,000 children a day.

Clean water charities provide well systems, sanitization units, filters, and training. Compassion International provides wells to children and their families. This gives them access to a safe water source that is nearby their child development center.
