The Rt. Rev. Dr. Laurent Mbanda was born in Rwanda, and spent his childhood years in Burundi. He has lived in many countries and is currently serving as the Bishop of Shyira diocese in the Anglican Church of Rwanda. Mbanda became a part of the Compassion International family in 1993, where he held several different positions in the ministry, including the Vice President of Africa Region.
Mbanda is a graduate of Kenya Highlands Bible College and has completed coursework for his M.A. in Missiology from Fuller Seminary’s School of World Missions. He also holds an M.A. in Christian Education from Denver Seminary and a Ph.D. from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He is fluent in French, Swahili and a several other African languages. Mbanda serves on the Board of International Justice Mission (IJM), and chairs the Board of Kigali Institute of Education, Rwanda. He and his wife Chantal reside in Musanze, Rwanda. They have three grown children (Erica, Eric, & Edwin) who all were born and live in United States.
