Engaging Your Audience
Often when Advocate Anji Sisler presents Compassion, she engages the audience through this wealth distribution activity Anji created.
Three million newborn babies die every year – mostly due to easily preventable or treatable causes such as infections, complications at birth and complications of prematurity. Sixty percent of infant deaths occur in the first month of life. Among those, nearly three-fourths (2 million per year) die in their first week. And more than a third (1 million per year) die on their day of birth. The Child Survival Program includes the presence of a trained birth attendant at birth. Why is this so important? The vast majority of birth-day deaths could be reduced if certain supplies, ranging in price from 13 cents to $6, were available and administered by people properly trained in their use. Those supplies include steroid injections for women in preterm labor (to reduce deaths due to premature babies’ breathing problems), resuscitation devices, chlorhexidine umbilical cord cleansing and injectable antibiotics to treat newborn sepsis and pneumonia. Having a trained birth attendant present at birth is crucial.
What iPad version of Magazine Means
By signing up for the iPad version of Compassion Magazine, sponsors and donors will help Compassion save a significant amount of money and increase options for the reader. Here’s how:
- The print version of Compassion Magazine costs around 40 cents per piece to print and mail while the Compassion Magazine for iPad will only cost about 5 cents per piece.
- It saves paper and cuts down on clutter.
- Content is easy to share via Facebook, Twitter and email, and there's a link to write to a sponsored child.
- There is extra content on the iPad edition that you can't get in the print magazine. For example, we are able to share more photos plus have videos within the magazine.
- The iPad edition is available through the Apple Store as a free app that downloads into the Newsstand, so everyone has access to it, not just sponsors and donors.
Sponsors and donors are being asked to sign up through their My Account on compassion.com. This ensures that Compassion will know to remove sponsors from the print mailing list. Sponsors will need to go to compassion.com/ipadmag. This landing page will give instructions for how to sign up for the iPad magazine.
Four Stars Again
For the 12th consecutive year, Compassion International has received Charity Navigator's coveted 4-star rating. This is the highest possible rating given by the organization, recognizing Compassion’s commitment to sound fiscal management, accountability and transparency. Only one-quarter of the charities evaluated have received this honor.
Celebrate God's Work
Advocates, please join Compassion USA in celebrating how God provided 21,841 sponsorships during the month of May, the most ever in one month in Compassion’s history. We praise God for His provision and we recognize the important role you played, advocates, in this amazing harvest, one child at a time.
