While it is true that the Dominican Republic continues to be a country ravaged by poverty, it also holds amazing promise. Many are coming to believe that with all of its troubles, this beautiful country holds some of the greatest potential to leave its history as a developing country behind to become a fully developed nation. The only thing standing in the way is the current generation -- what or rather who will the boys and girls currently enrolled in Compassion's programs become? What changes will they be poised to make? What is currently standing in their way and how can those obstacles be removed? This tour is designed to be short, yet high impact. Our journey will require us to come prepared to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the ongoing factors that create poverty and what can be done to reverse these factors. We will have the opportunity to learn what the everyday heroes who serve the children of the Dominican Republic offer them, and spend plenty of time encouraging them toward greater success.

This tour is designed to give you an opportunity to serve alongside other believers, but don't worry -- it will not be all work and no play! Each day will hold something new and will offer the opportunity to enjoy the unique beauty and fun this country has to offer, and, of course, you will also spend an entire day with the child/children you sponsor here. So take a moment to ask the Lord what part He wants you to play on this tour and then sign up today. Spaces will fill up fast, so be sure to register today!

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register by March 25, 2011. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $180.00, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $1,695.00 is due no later than July 18, 2011.

Please register now to complete the registration form online. If you'd rather register by mail, print the Registraton Form.

Price: The cost of this tour is $1,875.00 per person for double occupancy.

Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between Miami and the Dominican Republic, lodging, all meals, travel within the Dominican Republic, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.

Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from Miami, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.

Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.

Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Please read the Tour Conditions and General Information document before finalizing your decision.

Day 1: Our Journey Begins

Thursday, Nov. 3: Armed with passion for the ministry and prepared to invest, our journey begins as we make the trek from Colorado Springs to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Once in country we will meet our hosts for this exciting adventure!

Days 2-3: Expand Your Heart

Friday & Saturday, Nov. 4 & 5: Over the next two days we'll dive deep into the country to learn not only about the factors that contribute to the realities of poverty, but how Compassion's investment in the lives of the children living here can change the future of their country. We'll visit several local Compassion-assisted child development centers and a Child Survival Program to learn how these programs point children to the part the Lord has for them to play in the transformation of this nation. Our time here will not be mere observation; we'll learn as we minister together to the children and those who serve them.

Day 4: A Day None of Us Will Soon Forget

Sunday, Nov. 6: Today you'll have the opportunity to deepen your relationship with the child/children you sponsor. We'll have a whole day to laugh, play and build memories.

Day 5: Visiting the Compassion Field Office and a Child Survival Program

Monday, Nov. 7: This morning we will travel to the Compassion Dominican Republic office to participate in their weekly devotions. Then, we will take a tour of each division to learn how Compassion works operationally in country. On our way to the airport we'll have time for a brief shopping trip for those eager to bring gifts and souvenirs home with them. We depart later this afternoon to return to the United States.

In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.

Please visit
