Insights into children

The intensity and high energy of the musician his audiences applaud at a concert is only one aspect of Geoff Moore. Geoff is also a committed Christian, a devoted husband and father, an advocate for impoverished children ... and a Compassion sponsor.

During the time he invests in prayer, Geoff often intercedes for Klever Mendoza, the 12-year-old from Ecuador whom he and his family have sponsored for years.

The Moores' sponsorship has accomplished much in Klever's life. As Klever himself expressed in a recent letter to Geoff, "Without a sponsor, I wouldn't have medical treatments. I wouldn't have help in general. Through being sponsored, I have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ."

Being both a father and a sponsor has given Geoff greater insights into children and the daily challenges they face. "I've learned as a dad and as a sponsor that children from different cultures have a lot in common," he says, "even though the circumstances they face may be radically different.

"Klever is a great example. When Klever shows up on the playground for soccer, all the intensity and focus you'd see in any 12-year-old athlete come right to the surface. But the everyday circumstances that he has to deal with to get to the playground are very different than what most of us in the U.S. could ever imagine.

"My prayer for Klever is that he'll learn to approach his relationship with Jesus Christ with the same intensity he applies to soccer."
